The Academics Syndicate, Karbala branch, in cooperation with the College of Law at the University of Karbala, held a dialogue seminar to discuss the new draft of scientific promotions instructions scheduled to be approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The seminar was attended by the President of the University, Professor Dr. Sabah Wajid, and his assistants for administrative and scientific affairs, Professor Dr. Jassim Eidan Al-Maamouri and Professor Dr. Haider Muhammad Imran, in addition to the head of the Academics Syndicate branch, Dr. Munir Al-Dami, and a member of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, Dr. Firas Al-Maslamawi, and a number of deans of colleges, professors and university employees.

In his intervention, Dr. Firas Al-Maslamawi, a member of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, said that “the project will be subject to many amendments, including exempting humanities specializations from the (h-index) index,” noting that “the new instructions will be postponed and will not enter into force at the present time, contrary to what was reported by the media.”
Al-Maslamawi added that the Parliamentary Education Committee is proceeding with making the necessary amendments to the project to serve the educational process and close the doors to commercial magazines.

For his part, the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Muhammad Imran, said that “the financial challenge is one of the most prominent challenges facing instructors, in addition to the lack of universities of the necessary laboratories that can be relied upon in research,” stressing the importance of enhancing the status of local scientific journals that raise the university’s global ranking.
